The Link Between Varicoceles and Male Infertility
Learn what causes varicoceles, why it causes male infertility, and what to do about it.

If you're a male experiencing one of the following symptoms, it may be caused by a medical condition known as a varicocele:
- Testicular pain
- Noticeably smaller testicles
- Infertility
You may even have more than one affected vein, and they may look enlarged or bunched together—like a “bag of worms." If so, you may be affected by varicoceles, a varicose vein of the testicle. Varicoceles affect about 15 percent of men in general and about 30-40 percent of infertile men. Over 90 percent of varicoceles occur on the left side, but they can affect the function of both testicles. The good news is, varicoceles are very treatable.
